What's the difference?
CPW sells two similar products called BLOB50 and FATMAN, both based on vintage York dumbbells. The difference is that FATMAN is slightly heavier and slightly more round than the lighter, sleeker BLOB50. This makes FATMAN significantly harder to lift.
The BLOB50 Story: A Legend Reborn
The story of the Blob begins with grip icon Richard Sorin. He acquired a broken-off side of a York 100-pound dumbbell while cleaning out a YMCA. To his surprise, he could not lift this "blob" of iron! Not to be deterred, Sorin trained and ultimately became the first person to lift the Blob.
Blob lifting eventually became one of the most popular grip feats. Sorin's fatter first generation Blob is the true feat of strength, but those have always been hard to obtain. The sleeker and more common "Nextgen" dumbbell heads were slightly easier to lift. Unfortunately, making either version meant cutting apart valuable vintage York dumbbells. Prices and scarcity skyrocketed, especially for the 100-pound bells.
Enter GordonV from the GripBoard community. His idea was simple: Make purpose-built, faithful replicas of the sleeker, second generation York. He created a pattern and the BLOB50 was born! CPW acquired this original BLOB50 pattern and we have returned this beloved piece of equipment to the market.
